Activity self-assessment as a basis for the library effective management

Abstract:
The article considers a technique of library management based on organizational self-assessment, presents ad-vantages as an effective method of self-improvement. Self-assessment is a comprehensive and systematic ana¬lysis of the organization compared to the selected model and gives a general idea of the control system effec-tiveness. It can also help to identify opportunities for improvement, set priorities and develop action plans to achieve sustainable success.
As one of the most common self-assessment model it was considered All-Russian contest «100 best goods of Russia». The analysis of the competition questionnaires main headings have been carried on, and a model of self-tender evaluation criteria has been presented, which evaluating criteria are indicators of competitiveness and identification services.
The author studied Novosibirsk State Regional Scientific Library activities to provide services of users infor-mation-library servicing based on automated technologies in frames of compliance the competition model crite-ria. The library participation in the competition helped to assess a level of users, employees, suppliers, promo¬ters’ satisfaction, and based on it to identify priority areas for activity improvement. The results of the library contribution to the Contest allowed the authors to conclude that the diagnostic self-assessment can and should be an integral part of an annual cycle of planning, both strategic and operational.
